How will the course benefit me?
This course will help to develop your creativity and pottery skills in a structured and lively?environment, coached by a professional and practising potter. This practical course will teach you how to glaze your fired work.

What will I learn?
During this masterclass you would be able to: explain the difference between stoneware and earthenware, demonstrate how to effectively and safely glaze your finished work by dipping, pouring or brushing glazes, and make decisions on which standard department glazes to use to enhance your ceramic work.

Students can expand on their existing skills by enrolling on a further pottery course and masterclasses at Redbridge Institute. Your tutor will make recommendations based on your needs and ability.

Entry Requirements
This course is suitable for people who already have some clay-making experience and wish to learn more about glazing techniques. This course will cover the difference between stoneware and earthenware glazes and firing temperatures. It will explain briefly the nature of a glaze and how to apply glazes. Following the workshop, glazed work will then be fired. You will be encouraged to keep notes, or update an existing notebook, on your glazing decisions during the course. THIS COURSE IS ONLY SUITABLE FOR THOSE WHO ARE ATTENDING, OR HAVE ATTENDED, A POTTERY OR CERAMICS COURSE AND HAVE SOME PIECES ALREADY BISQUE-FIRED.

Additional Material Cost
You will need an apron, old clothes or an overall. You will be advised of any?equipment you need to purchase in the first lesson. Please bring a notebook. Materials and tools will be provided.

Health & Safety
Please be aware that this course involves the generation of dust which, whilst carefully controlled?and is not usually hazardous, may affect some individuals. Face masks are available upon request.? You will need to follow the tutor’s instructions on health & safety procedures given at the beginning of this session.

How will the course be delivered?
Students will be taught in a relaxed atmosphere. There will be demonstrations and one-to-one guidance and support from the tutor.
