More information about this Course

How will the course benefit me?
During this one-day course, you will be able to upcycle some of your old jewellery. This is an opportunity for you to redesign your old jewellery pieces and bring new life into them.

What will I learn?
During this one-day course you will learn how to repair or upcycle your jewellery pieces. You will learn very basic repair techniques and depending on your skill level there may be a possibility for you to solder. You will also have the chance to learn how to polish your pieces to a high polish finish. If you are repairing beaded jewellery you will be shown basic repair techniques for this. There will be limitations to what we can help you repair or recycle as we may not have the necessary resources to do this.

Career Opportunities
Various other jewellery making courses are available here at the Institute. Your tutor will advise suitable courses for you.

Entry Requirements
This course is open to beginners, but some experience in jewellery making may be useful. For health & safety reasons, it is essential that you are able to stand, have good eyesight, good manual dexterity, good concentration, be able to understand verbal instructions and safely use the workshop equipment.

Additional Material Cost
Tools will be provided during this course at our well-equipped studio. However, any consumable materials such as silver, copper sheet, wires, blades and solder will be available for you to purchase on the day.

Health & Safety
Some of the materials used such as copper sheet may, rarely, cause allergic reactions. If in doubt, please contact your medical practitioner. As this is a very hands-on course, good manual dexterity and eyesight is required in order to handle the hammers and all the hand tools. You will be required to use the workshop torches to anneal your metal and hammers to work your metal sheet with. Corrosive chemicals are used to clean the copper. This is essential equipment for use on this course. Learners MUST follow health & safety guidelines set by tutor. Open shoes must NOT be worn. Hair, and anything loose, must be tied back at all times. Please ensure you wear an apron or old shirt in the workshop to avoid damage to clothing. All workshop equipment must be used with respect according to the workshop rules. It is a requirement for every learner to have a good understanding of every instruction given.

How will the course be delivered?
Guidance and help will be available to every learner during the course. You will be given verbal instructions and feedback at various stages of the project. Where necessary, the tutor will perform practical demonstrations to help you with your project. One-to-one support will be available if required.
