How will the course benefit me?
If you are interested in community interpreting then this is the course for you. It is the first step towards gaining ac voluntary work in a range of settings including housing, education, social care, welfare benefits, immigration and healthcare. You will gain knowledge and skills of community interpreting including the role of codes of practice and the settings where interpreters may be required to work.

What will I learn?
How to use Google Education suite (email, online video conferencing, uploading coursework). You will gain basic knowledge and skills of community interpreting including the role of codes of practice and the settings where interpreters may be required to work; develop public service awareness and knowledge; develop language skills in preparation for training as community interpreters; develop listening and assertiveness skills in preparation for further community interpreting, study and work; develop volunteering experience in the community

Career Opportunities
This qualification supports progression onto Level 2 Certificate in Community Interpreting. It may be possible to progress onto other vocational qualifications if these are more suited to your career prospects. You may also be interested in our range of CPD workshops and short courses. "As part of your course you will receive employability support on your journey to finding a job. This will consist of one to one appointments , employability workshops and other useful talks, discussions etc.

Assessment / Exam
All units are internally assessed through the learner building up a portfolio of evidence that covers the relevant assessment criteria

Entry Requirements
Spoken and written English at Entry L3. An interest in the subject and a willingness to take an active part in the class The time and commitment necessary to complete a portfolio of evidence and maintain attendance of at least 90% An interview is essential for this course

Additional Material Cost
To fully participate in this class online you will need: - a PC/laptop/tablet with a fully updated browser (preferably Google Chrome) - your device will need a microphone and preferably a camera - you will need access to a reliable internet connection. To take part in classroom based leaning you will need: - an A4 ringbinder and pen - you may wish to purchase a USB in order to save work completed in the classroom - if you intend to take up a placement you may need to pay the cost of a DBS check or any additional associated costs You can use our Learning Resource Centre for free (printing costs apply).

Health & Safety
Standard classroom low level risk. You will be issued with a photo ID card and lanyard which must be worn at all times in our buildings. You will need your ID card to access the buildings. You will be issued with a Redbridge institute Google account which is to be used while you are on the course. You will also be expected to be familiar with staying safe while learning online. Under no circumstances should you use your personal email to account to access our Google system. Depending on the course you are enrolled for you may need a private space while participating in the online part of the course. Your tutor will advise you at the start of the course.

How will the course be delivered?
You will need to attend a Digital Skills Induction at the Institute about using the Google Education Suite and must have access to the internet via a suitable device, preferably a PC or laptop to enable you to access online learning. You will be issued with a Redbridge institute Google account. Your tutor will advise you at the start of the course. You will be working from multi-media resources including books, handouts and presentations, websites and Google Education Suite. This is an interactive course and you should be prepared to participate in group work, discussions and presentations. You should also expect to spend at least 2 - 3 hours each week on personal research and homework.
