How will the course benefit me?
This course will benefit anyone who would like to further their clothes making skills. This course will give you an insight of how patterns are created using a block; it will introduce you to basic pattern cutting skills and techniques which you will be able to integrate into your clothes making.

What will I learn?
You will learn a variety of basic techniques in creating pattern details, taught to you step by step, inc. how to trace around a card block and position construction lines, how to reposition darts, incorporate gathering and create design features within the block. You will also learn to work from a standard sized-block and you’ll explore how to create a range of pattern pieces for the bodice and how to draft pattern pieces and incorporate seam allowances.?

Career Opportunities
Learners are advised to enrol for further Pattern Courses or Advanced Clothes-Making courses to develop their skills further at the Institute. Details will be provided before the end of this course.

Entry Requirements
This course is for those with a keen interest in creating their own designs within their clothes making. You will need to have some knowledge of clothes making and how a garment fits together. There will be some sewing involved. Please note: This course is not run as a workshop, and learners will be expected to follow the course programme and tutor set projects. Learners must attend regularly to ensure progress.

Additional Material Cost
Learners will be advised in the first lesson of the specific equipment to purchase including the following items: a *Graders pattern cutting set square, a *tracing wheel and large scissors (from Morplan suppliers). These items are compulsory. Also a note book, pen and 4H pencil, a sewing kit (consisting of measuring tape, pins, scissors, un-picker and sewing needles). Health & Safety
You will need to follow the tutor’s instructions on health & safety procedures and learn how to use a sewing machine, iron and pattern cutting equipment safely.
