How will the course benefit me?
This Level 1 qualification introduces the role of a bookkeeper and simple bookkeeping techniques. With this qualification there’s no need for any prior accounting knowledge. It provides a solid grounding for students before moving on to the Foundation level qualifications. It can lead to a job role as a Cashier or Clerical Assistant

What will I learn?
This unit introduces students to the role of the bookkeeper and simple bookkeeping techniques. It covers the buying and selling process and the common documents used. The unit also includes recording transactions in the books of prime entry. On completion of this unit, students will be familiar with bookkeeping terminology and will have developed practical bookkeeping skills. Students will gain the confidence to contribute effectively in the workplace and to move on to further study in bookkeeping. Learning outcomes Understand the role of the bookkeeper. Understand financial transactions. Process customer and supplier transactions. Process receipts and payments.

Career Opportunities
Upon completion of this qualification you may progress on to the Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping and other Level 2 vocational courses. "As part of your course you will receive employability support on your journey to finding a job. This will consist of one to one appointments , employability workshops and other useful talks, discussions etc"

Assessment / Exam
Final assessment is computer based exams.

Entry Requirements
Spoken and written English at Level 1 ITQ Level 1 A willingness to participate in class discussions and activities and a commitment to personal study of at least 95% You must be at least 19 years of age to join this course An interview is essential for this course

Additional Material Cost
To fully participate in this class online you will need: - a PC/laptop/tablet with a fully updated browser (preferably Google Chrome) - your device will need a microphone and preferably a camera - you will need access to a reliable internet connection. To take part in classroom based leaning you will need: - an A4 ringbinder and pen - you may wish to purchase a USB in order to save work completed in the classroom - if you intend to take up a placement you may need to pay the cost of a DBS check or any additional associated costs You can use our Learning Resource Centre for free (printing costs apply).

Health & Safety
Standard classroom low level risk. You will be issued with a photo ID card and lanyard which must be worn at all times in our buildings. You will need your ID card to access the buildings. You will be issued with a Redbridge institute Google account which is to be used while you are on the course. You will also be expected to be familiar with staying safe while learning online. Under no circumstances should you use your personal email to account to access our Google system. Depending on the course you are enrolled for you may need a private space while participating in the online part of the course. Your tutor will advise you at the start of the course.

How will the course be delivered?
You will need to attend a Digital Skills Induction at the Institute about using the Google Education Suite and must have access to the internet via a suitable device, preferably a PC or laptop to enable you to access online learning. You will be issued with a Redbridge institute Google account. Online learning will include video conferencing with your tutor and classmates, taking part in group discussions and individual activities. You will be working from multi-media resources including books, handouts and presentations, websites and Google Education Suite. You will work on a set of tasks (written) throughout the course and your tutor will provide regular feedback on your progress and achievement. You should expect to commit to 2-3 hours a week on personal research and homework.
