How will the course benefit me?
This course is for anyone who has an interest in Textiles and Sewing crafts and would like to learn how to produce a creative textile piece of work incorporating free motion embroidery using a sewing machine. These techniques can be used on home furnishings and clothing.

What will I learn?
You will learn the technqiue of how to enhance and decorate your project, how to produce free motion embroidery and transfer your design onto fabric. The course aims to finish with a creative piece of work which can be incorporated into a project, e.g. cushion, picture, notebook cover, etc. Projects will be decided at the beginning of the course.

Career Opportunities
Further courses at the Institute in textile subjects and clothesmaking will be recommended based on your needs and ability before the end of the course.

Entry Requirements
Some knowledge of using a sewing machine and hand sewing is required and an enthusiasm for textile crafts and sewing. Reasonably good hand-eye coordination is also necessary. Please note: this course is not run as a workshop and learners will be expected to follow the course programme and tutor-set projects. Learners must attend regularly to ensure progress.

Additional Material Cost
Learners will need to purchase a notebook, pen, pencil, ruler and a sewing kit (consisting of measuring tape, pins, scissors, unpicker and hand sewing needles). If producing the notebook cover or cushion, learners will be expected to purchase an A6 notebook or cushion pad. This will be decided at the beginning of the course.

Health & Safety
You will need to follow the tutor’s instructions on health & safety procedures and learn
how to use a sewing machine, iron and sewing equipment safely.
