How will the course benefit me?
The course is for those who want to design and make their own stained-glass panels. The course is suitable for beginners and for those who already have some experience.

What will I learn?
The course is about learning and developing how to design for glass by working with colour, texture and light and using additional decorative techniques in order to make stained glass panels. You will learn/develop all the skills and techniques needed in order to make a stained glass panel - developing a design, drawing a cartoon (and, from it, making an accurate cutting pattern), cutting glass, leading, soldering, cementing and finishing. You will also be introduced to copper foiling and different paint techniques for decorating the glass surface.

Career Opportunities
You can continue to develop your skills and knowledge by enrolling on range of courses at the Institute, including further Stained Glass courses.

Entry Requirements
You must have good hand strength, dexterity, good eyesight and be able to stand and cut. An interest and enthusiasm for the subject is a must. If you are pregnant, you should consult your GP before enrolling on this course, as working with lead and solder could be harmful to the developing baby.

Additional Material Cost

An initial assessment at the beginning of the course will establish your starting point including skills, experience, confidence and preferred learning styles. It will also give your tutor an indication of your personal objectives. Subsequently, your tutor will be observing and discussing with you your progress at each stage, making suggestions as to how to improve your skills and achieve your objectives. At the end of the course you and your tutor will discuss your achievement and what you need in order to improve.
