How will the course benefit me?
This NCFE CACHE Introduction to Early Year's Settings course will give you a basic understanding of the knowledge and the skills needed to care for young children. The course provides a useful introduction to the early years setting and may help towards gaining employment in the field. It is suitable for those just starting their early years careers and supports progression onto further childcare qualifications.

What will I learn?
How to use Google Education suite (email, online video conferencing, uploading coursework). An introduction to caring for children and best practice in early years settings including: the value of play for babies and young children; roles and responsibilities in the early years setting; the management and organisation of an early years setting; the opportunity to reflect on your personal skills and develop a personal action plan.

Career Opportunities
This qualification supports progression onto Level 2 Childcare, Level 2 Suporting Teaching and Learning and other Level 2 vocational courses such as Counselling and Mentoring. You may also be interested in our flexible learning courses: Level 2 Certificates in Understanding Autism; Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities; Information, Advice and Guidance; Awareness of Mental Health Problems; Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health; Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties; Understanding Behaviour that Challenges; or you may wish to study maths and English to a higher level. Assessment / Exam
You will complete a portfolio of evidence showing how you meet the qualification criteria. This might include peer and tutor assessment, learning logs, reports and tutor observation.

Entry Requirements
Spoken and written English - at least to Entry Level 3 Enthusiasm and a desire to learn. An interest in the subject and a willingness to take an active part in the class The time and commitment necessary to complete a portfolio of evidence and maintain attendance of at least 95% An interview is essential for this course

Additional Material Cost
To fully participate in this class online you will need: - a PC/laptop/tablet with a fully updated browser (preferably Google Chrome) - your device will need a microphone and preferably a camera - you will need access to a reliable internet connection. To take part in classroom based leaning you will need: - an A4 ringbinder and pen - you may wish to purchase a USB in order to save work completed in the classroom - if you intend to take up a placement you may need to pay the cost of a DBS check or any additional associated costs You can use our Learning Resource Centre for free (printing costs apply).

Health & Safety
Standard classroom low level risk. You will be issued with a photo ID card and lanyard which must be worn at all times in our buildings. You will need your ID card to access the buildings. You will be issued with a Redbridge institute Google account which is to be used while you are on the course. You will also be expected to be familiar with staying safe while learning online. Under no circumstances should you use your personal email to account to access our Google system. Depending on the course you are enrolled for you may need a private space while participating in the online part of the course. Your tutor will advise you at the start of the course.

How will the course be delivered?
You will need to attend a Digital Skills Induction at the Institute about using the Google Education Suite and must have access to the internet via a suitable device, preferably a PC or laptop to enable you to access online learning. You will be issued with a Redbridge institute Google account. This course may be delivered online initially, using Google Education Suite, in line with possible blended delivery. Online learning will include video conferencing with your tutor and classmates, taking part in group discussions and individual activities. The course may be offered using blended delivery; some online sessions and some in the classroom (a mixture of workshops, discussions, presentations and practical sessions). Your tutor will advise you at the start of the course. You will be working from multi-media resources including books, handouts and presentations, websites and Google Education Suite. This is an interactive course and you will be expected to actively participate in sessions e.g. by sharing professional expertise and experience, taking part in group work, doing presentations, etc. You should also expect to spend at least 1 - 2 hours each week on personal research and homework.
