More information about this Course

How will the course benefit me?
This one-day course is suitable for learners of all abilities. If you are a beginner to jewellery making, you will learn skills that you can build upon in future classes at Redbridge Institute. If you are more advanced, other techniques will be taught enabling you to further develop your skills.

What will I learn?
How to design and create a copper pendant, how to make a silver pendant, how to texture metal using a rolling mill or hammers, use letter and number punches, how to add colour to your metal using patinas, how to finish off your creation to a good standard.

Career Opportunities
Redbridge Institute offers other jewellery-making courses on several different days and times. There will be information given by the tutor as to what other options are available to you.

Entry Requirements
Familiarity with basic jewellery-making tools and techniques such as sawing metal, soldering, and hammering would be useful but not essential. However, it is essential that you have excellent eyesight, are able to stand for long periods and have good manual dexterity and strength in using hammers and other hand tools. Concentration, paying attention to instructions and workshop health and safety is important, therefore workshop rules and H&S requirements will be explained and MUST be adhered to.

Additional Material Cost
Copper, silver sheet, wires and other materials can be purchased from the tutor at Redbridge Institute on the day.

Health & Safety
Learners MUST follow health & safety guidelines set by tutor. Open shoes must NOT be worn. Hair, and anything loose, must be tied back at all times. Please ensure you wear an apron or old shirt in the workshop to avoid damage to clothing. All workshop equipment must be used with respect according to the workshop rules. It is a requirement for every learner to have a good understanding of every instruction given.

How will the course be delivered?
The tutor will perform practical demonstrations and give verbal instructions and feedback at various stages of the project. Learners will receive one-to-one support as well as participate in group discussions. Continuous guidance and help will be available to every learner.
