How will the course benefit me?
This City and Guilds course provides a pathway for learners to understand assessment and qualify as an assessor. It is part of an integrated suite of Training, Assessment, Quality and Assurance (TAQA) qualifications for practitioners. This qualification is a knowledge-only award for people working in, or looking to enter roles in assessment and internal quality assurance. Achievers will understand the principles of assessment and have the knowledge to develop and improve systems.

What will I learn?
How to use Google Education suite (email, online video conferencing, uploading coursework). This is a knowledge-only award for those wishing to carry out assessment roles in their organisation; or those wanting to know about assessment but who are not currently practicing. It provides an opportunity to develop and improve practice as well as achieving a professional qualification for the assessor role. You will complete two mandatory units: • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
• Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding

Career Opportunities
This course will give you the skills and confidence to apply for teaching posts in Adult/Further Education or progress onto courses such as the Diploma in Teaching and Education (DET) which will give you a full teaching qualification to teach in the sector. Your tutor will provide you with advice on progression opportunities at the end of the course. You may also be interested in our range of CPD workshops and short courses.

Assessment / Exam
You will have assignments throughout the course and your tutor will provide regular feedback on your progress and achievement.

GCSE English and Maths grades A - C
A willingness to participate in class discussions and activities and a commitment to personal study The time and commitment necessary to complete a portfolio of evidence and maintain attendance of at least 90%

Additional Material Cost
To fully participate in this class online you will need:
- a PC/laptop/tablet with a fully updated browser (preferably Google Chrome) - your device will need a microphone and preferably a camera - you will need access to a reliable internet connection.
To take part in classroom based leaning you will need:
- an A4 ringbinder and pen
- you may wish to purchase a USB in order to save work completed in the classroom
- if you intend to take up a placement you may need to pay the cost of a DBS check or any additional associated costs

Health & Safety
Standard classroom low level risk. You will be issued with a photo ID card and lanyard which must be worn at all times in our buildings. You will need your ID card to access the buildings. You will be expected to follow the social distancing arrangements in place for the safety of staff and learners (see our guide to social distancing for further information). You will be issued with a Redbridge institute Google account which is to be used while you are on the course. You will also be expected to be familiar with staying safe while learning online. Under no circumstances should you use your personal email to account to access our Google system. Depending on the course you are enrolled for you may need a private space while participating in the online part of the course. Your tutor will advise you at the start of the course.

How will the course be delivered?
You will need to attend a Digital Skills Induction at the Institute about using the Google Education Suite and must have access to the internet via a suitable device, preferably a PC or laptop to enable you to access online learning. You will be issued with a Redbridge institute Google account. This course may be delivered online initially, using Google Education Suite, in line with current lockdown restrictions. Online learning will include video conferencing with your tutor and classmates, taking part in group discussions and individual activities. When lockdown restrictions are lifted the course may continue to be offered using blended delivery; some online sessions and some in the classroom (a mixture of workshops, discussions, presentations and practical sessions). Your tutor will advise you at the start of the course. You will be working from multi-media resources including books, handouts and presentations, websites and Google Education Suite. There is a strong practical element and learners will be expected to participate in discussions and workshops. You should expect to commit to 3 - 5 hours a week on personal research and homework.
