How will the course benefit me?
This course will be a celebration of our beautiful woodland, which we will be painting in watercolour and some mixed media. Learners will explore their own artistic ability and gain confidence in valuable practical skills, whether new or renewed. You will learn under the guidance of an enthusiastic practising artist. The tutor encourages a friendly supportive environment where you will be working with washes, glazes and wet-on-wet techniques. The themes will range from natural still life, landscape and seasonal woodland views You could be working from objects or photographs, sometimes these will be provided by the tutor, sometimes by the learner. You will gain in confidence and skill level and it will be stimulating and enjoyable.

What will I learn?
This 4-week course is an introduction to painting in watercolour. Learners will practise the basic techniques of watercolour and also improve their drawing skills. Basic watercolour techniques will be taught, such as washes, glazes and "wet-on-wet", with projects that could include woodland wildlife, landscape and natural still-life. Colour-mixing will be included as it adds to the skill base of this course.

Entry Requirements
This course is NOT suitable for complete beginners.
It is aimed at those who have enthusiasm for the subject matter and maybe a small amount of experience, but beginners are welcome. Learners will be building on their confidence and skill base and extending their ideas and knowledge.

Assessment / Exam
You will receive regular verbal feedback from your tutor, who will assess you continually and informally. An Individual Learning Plan will help you monitor your progress and reach your targets.

Career Opportunities
To other art courses within the Institute. Some learners move on to the 15-week watercolour course or a foundation course, or GCSE art. Some learners may want to return to this course as it is a popular theme.
